The Cuban Poster Gallery appreciates your business! OUR PRICE FOR THIS POSTER IS $389 The Cuban Poster Gallery is delighted to offer ZIMBABWE, a rarely seen, original 1972 Cuban solidarity poster. This historic Cuban offset poster was printed in Havana eight years before the birth in 1980 of the new southern African nation of Zimbabwe. In 1972, this former British colony was named Rhodesia, and its racist white minority government was widely condemned. This poster was printed in 1972 by the Havana-based Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa & Latin America (OSPAAAL), which promoted Cuba's solidarity with countries and revolutionary movements in the Third World. OSPAAAL was founded in January 1966; it closed its doors in June 2019. Like many OSPAAAL graphics, this poster is offered in multiple languages -- in this case, English, Arabic, Spanish and French. The poster notes in these four languages that March 17 had been designated as a day of world solidarity with Zimbabwe. The poster was designed by Lázaro Abreu Padron (born 1941), one of the most prominent Cuban graphic designers of the 1960s and 1970s. His work is in museum collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert in London and the Smithsonian National Museum of African History & Culture in Washington D.C. The poster measures 21.5 by 13.5 inches (54.5 x 32 cm). Overall condition of this original Cuban poster is good with small imperfections (including a pin hole) that are common with Cuban propaganda posters. The pin hole, which cannot be seen on the face of the poster when it is laid flat, was created by a woodworm (polilla in Spanish) that is common in subtropical Cuba.
