Zero-Mod 4003-Clear Thumb Rest for Pre-2015 Rickenbacker 4003 Bass

A custom thumb rest for the classic Rickenbacker 4003 bass requiring ZERO modifications to your bass! This version fits all 4003's with one-piece guards from its introduction right up to the 2014-2016 transition to the guard that's currently in use on all new 4003's.For the early 4003's with two-piece guards, the ZM-4001 might be a better fit (contact us to verify that for you). The current 4003 needs the 4003v2. See below for the full details in helping you choose the correct version of thumb rest for your 4003.(see our listings for 4003 in BLACK, WHITE, the "4003FB FatBoy" models, and the 4003v2 models) ============================================================================================================== If you are a fingerstyle player with a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003, you know there is no really good place to "hang your thumb" - You see many Rics with a wear spot at the corner of the pickguard, where players try to "dig in", and many Rics with the chrome cover removed from the bridge pickup to allow finger style access. I designed this for my own 4003 as I wanted to make it more comfortable to play and keep the "cover on" as the classic look that is a big part of this bass for many Ric fans. This thumb rest is made out of one quarter inch thick high quality dead clear polycarbonate, and precision CNC made in a machine shop here in the USA. The position and design mean NO NEW HOLES in your bass! Includes two pick guard screws which are slightly longer than the stock Ric screws, so you do not even change the screw holes by adding this on. It's invisible on a black or white guard from a few feet away. Pics show this clear rest on my white 4003 guard and the same clear rest, against a piece of black pick guard stock, for comparison. The ZM-4003 model is custom made for Rickenbacker 4003 basses, from their inception up thru 2014, and depending on the particular 4003 model, as late as 2016. It is very close, but not quite interchangeable with the 4001 Model or the 4003v2 model. If you want the fit and look to be 100% right on, you MUST use the appropriate version for your bass. (We explain it here, but if in doubt, contact us and we'll be happy to help you choose the correct model.) RIC PARTICULARS - Due to variations in models and years and the EXACT FIT these are made to, it is not possible to offer a "one size fits all" version - Believe me it would make our lives easier! We have a few out on Tokai Ric copies now and they fit well. This model FITS all standard Ric 4003 and 4003S basses into 2015 with the one piece guard. The earliest versions of the 4003 with the two-piece pickguards may require a 4001 style rest depending on the screw spacing. This model MIGHT FIT the 2014 4003W, the 2015 or 2016 editions of the 4003S, or the 2015 or 2016 editions of the standard 4003 depending on which pickguard was used. Some of those Ric editions may have moved to the new "retro" pickguard that Rickenbacker transitioned to between 2014 and 2016. Those will require our 4003v2 model thumb rest. ALL 2017 and onward models of Ric 4003's must use our 4003v2 rest which is available in separate listings. (See pickguard comparison pics above to help you figure out which guard you have.)
