Description: This brilliantly colored serigraph is by internationally recognized artist, Yankel Ginzberg. Entitled “Micah”, this is one of Ginzburg’s “Judea's Great Prophets” series and is hand signed and numbered 85 of 250 by the artist. It is beautifully custom matted and framed; the framed dimensions are 16” x 20” x ¾” (estimated art dimensions are 13” x 17”). The gold-tone frame has some places where it's not as shiny as it used to be (but who is?), and there are a few light scratches, but nothing deep or that detracts from the beauty of the art. You can also see on the back where, at some point early in its framed lifetime, someone tried to scrap off the information card from the backing board. Some of the photos show reflections from the camera flash; but there are several angles, including close-ups, so that you can see every area clearly. "Color is my most important aspect, I am predominantly a colorist. I truly believe that color is the first element of creation.” ---Yankel Ginzburg Along with the dynamic colors you will also see ladders, a biblical symbol of hope, which are the only symbol that is recurrent in much of Ginzburg’s work. About Yankel Ginzburg: Yankel Ginzburg’s ‘story’ is fascinating. He was born in 1945 in the Russian/Soviet Republic of Khazakhstan, near the Chinese border. His parent’s were both Russian Army officers and when Ginsburg was six years old they were both arrested and his father was imprisoned for Zionist activities. In 1957 they immigrated to Israel where Ginzburg would became the youngest student ever accepted to the prestigious Academy of Arts of the Museum of Bat-Yam. In 1962, the world famous Master Painter, Marc Chagall visited the Academy and pronounced: "It took me 40 years to capture Paris. This youngster will capture the world even before his hair turns gray...." From a humble beginning as a painter dealing with mystical symbolism Yankel Ginzburg rose to become an internationally recognized artist. His art is well known and admired by critics and art lovers alike and his works have been exhibited the world over from Los Angeles to New York, London to Paris, Cairo to Moscow, Tokyo to Hong Kong. About Micah (from Wikipedia) Micah was a prophet in Judaism from 737 to 696 BC, who wrote the Book of Micah, found in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and the Christian Bible Old Testament. He reproaches unjust leaders, defends the rights of the poor against the rich and powerful, he prophesied judgment and restoration and concludes with mercy and hope. Micah is also known for the prophecy that Bethlehem, a small village just south of Jerusalem, would be the birthplace of the Messiah.
