Description: [WWII, PEARL HARBOR GI'S, WAVES, LONG TERM CORRESPONDENCE] On offer here is an ARCHIVE OF SEVERAL HUNDRED LETTERS BETWEEN A PEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR AND COMBATANT (He fought that day from the USS Selfridge) WHO MARRIES A W.A.V.E. (Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service). This group of correspondence is between Lt. Cmdr. Jack Dickson USN and Genevieve O. (nee Mansfield) Dickson. Jack Dickson's entry into the war while on the USS Selfridge (DL357) was notable as he was a fireman and gunnery ensign likely firing .50 guns all morning at Japanese attackers in Pearl Harbor. This lot is comprised mainly of their correspondence to each other between about December 1944 (they were married in the summer of 1944) and just after the end of the war (October 1945). They wrote each other almost EVERY DAY......Recalling their daily activities and most endearingly their love for each other. They had at least 4 children from what we can discern (including 3 daughters) and we found 3 individually addressed postcards to each of the daughters he sent them from his post-war station in Japan.
