The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Johann Kaindl Johann was a Corporal in the elite Mountain Troops and was a veteran of the campaign in France, Yugoslavia and Russia. He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Infantry Assault Badge. He passed during heavy fighting in the East from an artillery round at the age of 22 - no actual date of death is provided though.
