Description: This is one half of the Ross 10x70 “Captain’s glass” giant handheld binoculars. These binos were only issued to captains of larger (cruisers and bigger) ships of the Royal Navy. This started as a PATT (pattern) 2112 bino, and later updated to the more-waterproof PATT AC 2010 standard. At some point one half of the bino was damaged, and the damaged half was cut off. No idea if this was done during RN service, or when it was in civilian hands. The lenses are coated. The eyepiece turns freely. There is what I believe is fungus on the objective (large) lens. Prisms have no separation, but there is a dirt spot that is noticeable. No scratches, cracks, or separation anywhere. The sunshade extends, exposing the brass objective lens barrel (most of the rest of the construction is aluminum). The four filters (clear, yellow, light gray, dark gray) turn into position easily. The view is pretty decent. There is less contrast than modern binos, still, the view is decent. The most objectionable thing in the view is the dirt spot on the prism. So, use as is and keep as a collectible, or tear it apart and fix the defects, or use it for parts. I had planned to rebuild it, but it’s been 10+ years and that hasn't happened, so it’s time to go to a new home.I ship internationally using the Ebay International Shipping system. Sometimes that is problematic, so I also ship international directly if needed.
