A handwritten 1918 original letter; 2 pages of 8 sides of cursive script Written on stationery with words "LONG MAY OUR LAND BE BRIGHT WITH FREEDOM'S HOLY LIGHT", from 4th stanza of the song "My Country Tis of Thee", also known as "America"-The letter is written by a female friend to soldier, Harry Nadel. -Harry Nadel was in Company A, 51st Pioneer Infantry; his civilian job was at Paramount Pictures. His brother Joe, was an accomplished movie producer. In the letter, the woman mentions the "raging epidemic" (the Spanish Flu) and writes, "We too are fighting a battle."About raising money through the "Liberty Loan," she remarks, "Well we have just added about ten more nails to the Kaiser's coffin." A liberty bond or liberty loan was a war bond sold in the United States to support the Allied cause in World War I.
