Description: Original WW2 RAF / British Army map from the 'Yugoslavia' series which covers an area of HUNGARY & YUGOSLAVIA. NAGYKANIZSA was the centre of the Hungarian oil industry, and as German supplies dwindled towards the end of the War, the NAGYKANIZSA oil fields represented their last major source. In order to protect them, the Germans launched their last major offensive of the War (OPERATION SPRING AWAKENING) but it proved unsuccessful. Scale 1:250,000 In excellent condition. From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence ink stamping to margin. (Following both World Wars, the government distributed excess stocks of Allied maps, along with captured enemy examples, to various national institutions such as libraries, museums, universities etc.) Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines.
