WW1 1918 Aviation Sketch of AEF Squadron from Aerial Photographer NAMES Photo

Description: Soldiers identified in image: Lt Hunter,Schofield,Van Thyne,Cpl Kinkead, Cpl Adametz, Sgt Starrett,Cpl Welch Type & Size: A 5.5x8" original photograph. Condition: Original to the era and in good to fair antique condition; may have missing portions, age wear, smudging, corners may have slight damage or some light creasing. There is some damage/smearing top Left. What a cool find! This was tucked in a large lot of AEF Aerial reconnaissance photographs that we acquired from a large collection. This photo showcases a whimsical and detailed illustration of an AEF aviation squadron from World War I era, with various people depicted in military uniforms, aircraft, and equipment all around. Notably, there is a dirigible carrying a basket that seems to command attention, while the right side includes people engaged in various activities, such as handling equipment and conversing. It appears the aerial photographer took this photo of a sketch either he or a squad mate made. During World War I, aerial observation and reconnaissance became crucial for military operations. American Expeditionary Force (AEF) observation squadrons conducted extensive surveillance missions over enemy lines, using balloons like the one depicted. These missions provided valuable intelligence, often at great personal risk to the pilots and observers.
