Description: This is an original World War Two US AAF Directional Gyro gauge instrument as used in the Republic P-47N Thunderbolt fighter aircraft. This gauge comes with a tag saying it is serviceable. It is marked AN 5735-1 . This gauge works on a vacuum system and provides the pilot with a magnetic heading. It is more accurate than a wet compass but it still needs constant updating. The P-47 Thunderbolt was a very successful AAF fighter and attack aircraft. It was later surpassed by the long range P-51 Mustang. It became a very strong ground attack aircraft.This gauge is in very good condition . It is 6 x 7 x 6 inches. This gauge would also have been used in the AT-6, P-38, P-51, P-40, B-17, B-25, B-24, C-47, A-26, B-29 etc. This item is being sold as a collectible.
