T U R N E R " P R I N C E S S O F P E A C E " P A I N T I N G ( Approx 18" by 24" Framed ) If you're a mid century art collector, you've likely heard of Carlo of Hollywood and his unique and coveted pieces. You may also have come across a "Turner Wall Accessory" - possibly an early phenolic wall sculpture or a licensed print of some notable artists work. What you likely do not know is that early in Turner's career he, like Carlo of Hollywood, produced original paintings employing early "mass production." In the post war period, art for the home was a rarity. There was no internet, very few art galleries in suburbia or throughout most of middle America, and acquiring art prints was most often done by mail through mail order catalogs! If you lived in a more upscale neighborhood, door to door sales people would ring your bell and show you all the wonderful prints they had available to decorate your home. Yes, this is how it was most often done from 1900-1970. The only other place you could acquire art was a department store or a furniture store! Turner was an enterprising fellow and realized people wanted ORIGINAL art, not just prints. They wanted a signed original piece of modern art they could proudly point to when their bridge companions came over on Saturday night! So Turner figured a way to "mass produce" (around 50 paintings per design) each of his original works. The AIR BRUSH (a very modern tool at this time!) was his secret to creating originals that were very similar, yet slightly different in a reasonable time frame. By the late forties he no longer had the time for original painting and was selling "Turner Wall Accessories" (mostly licensed prints) all over the US. Here is a wonderful work that is definitely a Turner piece, even though it is unsigned. A beautiful tall woman (possibly a princess) holds a dove in her extended arm. She is surrounded by a marvelous setting, with silver skies and simply gorgeous details! Many Turner airbrush collectors love the way the pieces have a relaxing effect on the viewer. Something about the soft airbrushing, pastel hues and ethereal visions create a very harmonious vision for an interior! Great condition! Bamboo frame. Protected behind glass for 70 years! We've NEVER seen another of these pieces and it may be a one-off work done by Turner for a customer. This work is amazingly timeless and somehow looks as if it was painted last week! A divine addition to your NY penthouse, Palm Springs Atomic Ranch or CA Case Study Home!
