Description: Hoodie? Hooded Sweater? Henley with Hood? In Wool by Stanfield’s Makes me nervous whenever a company as old as Stanfield’s starts changing things or adding radically different styles call me pessimistic but in my experience, that kind of change rarely bodes well. Another issue, what exactly is this thing? Has a hood but isn’t really what you’d call a “hoodie” has a placket front but due to the hood, not a “Henley” Really way too heavy and warm to be called “shirt” too smooth and flat laying to be a sweater. After wearing and testing them for over a year, none of us know what they are, except incredibly practical and warm. This “garment” (safe word) is an incredibly versatile layering piece and a snappy looking outer layer. None of us testing these in the high altitudes of Wyoming will give theirs up. No one has worn one out despite constant use. Oh yeah, we are all either getting more callous or Stanfield’s wool is getting less itchy. Duties that this “garment” has excelled at: under a leather jacket on a motorcycle, under a slicker everywhere, in drafty houses, thrown on after peeling out of a wetsuit, driving in various vehicles, wrapping up calves in the barn and on the saddle, keeping burns at bay stoking wood stoves, tucked in to a Kilt, attending PTA meetings, worn tucked in or outside various jeans, skirts, or trousers, attending Town Council meetings, getting wood from the pile, donned repeatedly when the hot water ran out in the Wilderness hunting camp shower, worn by an Irish Wolf Hound recovering from surgery. The Wolf Hound’s has been laundered and is back on the hound’s master, other “garments” still in service as well. The Hood, sized kind of like a 7/8 stocking cap, with the warmth of a medium weight wool cap, does a great job of lining a collar or hood on an outer layer. Round cut, it will only give you a cone head if your head is pointed. Drawstrings can tighten it around one’s face; it is much easier to hear in than any other hoodie any of us have worn. Available in black or grey, neither of which have pockets or a marsupial pouch. Fit: Those of you familiar with Stanfield’s very rare design changes may recall the Women’s Wool Henley. The “Women’s” derivation only had the sleeves shortened about 1 ½” on each size and was offered in some really avant-garde colors such as purple as well as the usual grey mix. These hoodies have a shorter body (3” shorter on size Large) and longer sleeves (1” longer on size Large) compared to the Clark Kent version when new. This Hoodie is not double breasted. The neck size is a smaller diameter, more like a normal T-shirt. The fit runs about one full size smaller than the Clark Kent shirt (https://www.ebay.com/itm/251702594499) which is to say, I wear a Medium in the Clark Kent, a large in the hooded “garment”. Pretty radical new design for Stanfield’s. Really it doesn’t matter what this “garment” is the function is superb, odds are Stanfield’s will be making these 100 years from now, like most of their products.
