Located on Wood End of Provincetown peninsula and acts as a navigational aid for vessels on their approach to Provincetown harbor. Wood End lighthouse was built in 1872 and is the only remaining original lighthouse in the Cape Cod seashore area. The lighthouse stands 39 feet. In 1896 a wooden keeper's house, storage shed and oil house were built. With the changing times and no need to man the light station in 1961 the buildings were demolished leaving just the tower and oil house. In 1981 Wood End lighthouse was the first Massachusetts lighthouse to be converted to solar power for its light and fog signal.
