Description: Untitled 2 San Francisco Examiner August 13, 1948 DESCRIPTION This auction is for most of the San Francisco Examiner on the above date (original paper, we do not deal with reproductions). This section was originally 40 pages long (or so it appears), but is missing pages which contained comics (typically involved removing 2-4 pages...sport pages intact). CONDITION The paper is generally in good shape, but does have some general wear and tear from the ages since it is a former library copy. Here are some notes on the condition, some of these notes are generalizations made for all newspapers from this time period and set: Numerous small tears around the edges along with flaking. There are of course some larger tears as well. There are tears on every page at both sides of the centerfold (also small pieces flaked off). There may be a library stamp on the front cover. Some general yellowing/browning due to the age. The covers of this date are much darker than normal...particularly on the edges where they have some taped repairs. There are a few other pages which are well browned as well and of course these pages are more brittle. Some flaking along the edges of of the pages (see pictures). Small binding holes on the left side. There are small tears along the binding holes (particularly near the centerfold). Also some small tears along the rest of the binding. There is a slight crease where this paper was once folded, but it has been sitting flat for a very long time (was within a bound set). As stated, this issue is not complete. Pages with comics removed (typically 2-4 pages). Some pages are detached from the rest. There are some crease/wrinkle lines on some of the pages. Some of these are very large, but were generally caused by the printing press. The spine of some pages may be taped with old, stiff, discolored tape. A few pages are also taped along the edge. There might be some slight ink transfer from page to page...common when color was used in ads. We can not always catch every detail when listing these items, so we encourage you to look at the pictures and gauge the condition for yourself as well.
