Description: A nicely painted marine painting of oyster boats at sunrise by American artist William Merritt Post (1856-1935). Post was born in Brooklyn, New York, studying early on with Samuel Frost Johnson and J. Carroll Beckwith, and was greatly influenced by Hugh Bolton Jones. He exhibited with the National Academy of Design, and was drawn to landscapes in the Connecticut area, purchasing a farm in West Morris (Bantam), and was drawn to country streams and reflections on water in Northwest Connecticut, the theme of many of his paintings for which he became well known for.Oil on canvas, unsigned, a copy of the original William Merritt Post estate stamp on verso (on original canvas, now covered), and housed in a fine molded giltwood frame.
