This first edition copy of The Pyramid was sold in Paris by the famous Anglo-American dealer, Shakespeare & Company. Bearing their stamp thus and a price of ‘10F’ to the front end paper tip. The title page is stamped with their original 1964 stamp, rebranded in April of that year, to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birthday. Shakespeare and Company is an English-language bookshop in the heart of Paris, on the banks of the Seine, opposite Notre-Dame. Since opening in 1951, it’s been a meeting place for anglophone writers and readers, becoming a Left Bank literary institution.
