Description: Original antique hand colored map published in 1635 in Amsterdam. Published by Willem Blaeu and his Son Joan. This comes from the French edition: Le Theatre du Monde ou Nouvel Atlas Contenant. The Blaeu firm is one of the premier cartographers of the 17th Century and were known for their detailed craftsmanship , attention to detail , and beautiful hand coloring. In 1629 Willem and his son Joan bought about 30 or so copperplates from the widow of Jodocus Hondius II. They then produced their own atlas starting in 1635.
