Description: This is a lot of four cartoon/comic books by Willem, the pen name of Bernard Holtrop. The books are in French. Willem is Dutch by birth, but the majority of his career has been spent as a cartoonist in France. He is a celebrated political cartoonist there whose work has been featured in Charlie Hebdo and the newspaper Libération. In 2013, he won the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême, which is a lifetime achievement award and one of the top cartooning prizes in the world. The four books are:1. Le feuilleton du siècle (Cornelius, 2002) - this one functions more as a graphic novel than a book of political cartoons. The title Le feuilleton du siècle translates to "Soap Opera of the Century" and the comic is a satirical journey through the 20th century. 2. Willem à Libération (Albin Michel, 1989) - collection of political cartoons featured in the newspaper. 3. Macron, L'Amour Fou (Requins Marteaux, 2018) - cartoons from Libération and Charlie Hebdo during the beginning of Macron's presidency. 4. Akbar! (Requins Marteaux, 2015) - a year's of cartoons from Libération and Charlie Hebdo. Willem is a master artist and his satire is sharp and witty - even for non French-readers, there is much to enjoy here in the artwork. The books are used but in good condition. They have some wear from reading and handling including scuffing, some dirt on cover or edges, and dings on corners or edges. Le feuilleton du siècle's spine is a bit rolled from reading but binding is solid. Reasonable offers considered. Please see my other auctions for more books and comics. I will combine shipping for multiple purchases.
