Description: Waterbury, CT Cabinet Card large woman, full length dress w flower trim by Smith This woman has chosen a lovely outfit for her photo shoot! Her skirt is dark. The fabric is smooth and the cut moderately full. Her dark blouse and belt look as though they are made of a crisper, shinier fabric than the skirt. At her cuffs and down the front of her bodice are cutwork flowers in white, which really lead the eye nicely up to her lovely face and hair. I believe this photographer to be Henry Smith, active at a couple of Waterbury addresses around the turn of the century. No back mark. Below image, in silver letters on bottom right of card is:"SmithWaterbury, Conn." Card edges are rounded. Card measures 8.5 x 5 inches. Image measures about 5.5 x 2.75 inches. Some yellowing to image. Light surface scratching to image, and some soiling to image and card. Edge wear to card. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
