Twin-screw, 21 knots, steam turbines two masts and two funnels. Launched August 20, 1932. Maiden voyage New York-Plymouth-Hamburg on May 10, 1933. Passenger accommodations for 500 cabin, 500 tourist and 200 third. Employed as a troopship during WW II. Resumed trans-Atlantic service in Feb. 1948. Post war accommodations were for 1,100 passengers in a single class. This former luxury liner was returned to the United States Government service in 1951. Subsequently laid up.
