Description: Hiking pictures from the Dolomites. By Theodor Wundt. Colored by the painter Professor G. Herdtle. Published by the Berlin section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club. Folder with elaborate cover decoration with colored collotype, 10 pages of explanatory text for the plates, 14 collotype plates after photographs by Theodor Wundt, some colored. Good condition. Two of the colored were once framed so they’ve been trimmed on the edges. I believe there is 2 missing photos, originally 16. Theodor Karl Wilhelm Wundt, known as Wundt since 1906, (1858 - 1929) was a Württemberg lieutenant general, mountaineer, photographer and writer. From the 1880s onwards he developed a particular love of mountaineering, which took him repeatedly to the Swiss Alps, the High Tatras and from 1887 to the Dolomites, where he undertook tours, initially with the mountain guide Michael Innerkofler (Kleine Zinne), but then alone (Monte Cristallo, Piz Popena, Cadinspitzen and other mountains that were considered difficult or unclimbable at the time, which is why the valley residents often doubted the climbs or declared him crazy). His honeymoon in 1894 with the Englishwoman Maud Walters took them both to the summit of the Matterhorn. He was one of the pioneers of high mountain photography. The sometimes breathtaking photos have trilingual titles, German, English and Italian. Condition, most photos are in very good condition, 2 colored photos were once framed and trimmed, some wear on those 2 such as a bit of paint missing (pictured). Folder is in fair condition, fraying and rubbed corners, inner cover decoration is loose.
