Description: Vintage Traditional Hanging Indian String Puppet - Rajasthani Kathputli This Kathputli depicts what looks like a very happy woman. She has a red handpainted smile. The head and torso are handcarved and handpainted wood. The skirt is made from a loose woven gauze material, it is made from two colors of fabric on the front, but both fabrics have the same printed zigzag pattern. The back of the skirt has a multicolored panel. There is a natural colored gauze underskirt. The shirt is cotton, the arms and chest are stuffed very tight. The whole puppet is all hand stitched. She has a loop screwed in the top of her head that her puppet string is attached to. The string looks to be hand braided. Vintage displayed and played with condition. The handpainted head is in good condition with minimal paint loss, there is some scuffing to the nose area. There is some pre-paint wood splits. The skirt has fading to the parts that have been exposed to the light and air. There is also some color dye transfer on the back. The shirt and arms also have fading. For each of her hands is a tassel, one of the tassels is damaged or at least it's smaller than the other.
