The sides are translucent and you can see the rice grains in the light.The bowl is totally awesome and there's not a flaw to be seen. No chips, no stains, no cracks, no fading and no crazing. It must have been kept in a display cabinet or stored for special occasions. It's made in China. I don't have a date on it, but found something that read it was probably made in the 50's or early 60's, but it's not FACT. I will add this, "I don't believe that you'll find a nicer bowl, new, at Tiffany's!" It's a beauty! The bowl will be carefully packaged, padded and protected.
