Vtg Native American Wood Carving Statue Totem Thunder Bird D. Nahanee Squamish

Description: This beautiful hand carved totem made by famous carver David Nahanee. There are some tool marks as to be expected with a handmade item as pictured. Northwest Coast, British Columbia, Canada, signed D. Nahanee likely referring to artist David Nahanee (Coast Salish, b. 1939), ca. mid 20th century. Hand-carved from cedar wood, a totem representing the Thunderbird, with its distinctive face presenting characteristically large eyes, raised ears, and curved long beak. The Thunderbird is perched upon its legs, both with nicely delineated plumage and talons, and with its long wings, meticulously incised with details, held to each side of his body. The piece is neatly incised with "THUNDER BIRD D. NAHANEE" on the reverse side. This vintage 8" Native American wood carving statue is a stunning piece depicting a Thunder Bird and a Nahanee figure from the Squamish culture. The artist, Summers, expertly carved this piece using traditional techniques and materials such as wood and paint. The statue is a medium-sized, original, and handmade piece that is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The statue is of a traditional Alaska totem and was produced in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States during the post-war period (1940-1970). The production technique used was carving, and the statue is a perfect addition to any collection or home decor. This is to be considered in acceptable condition with wear including scuffs, marks, nicks, tarnishing, discoloring, stains, dings, etc. These are used and are NOT mint.
