Description: Up for sale is an extremely rare & absolutely gorgeous Vintage TYCO HP2 Curve Hugger #5 Yellow GULF MCLAREN M8D Can-Am HO Slot Car. This car was the car that ruled Can-Am in the late 60's & early 70's & does not come around often. Raced by the legendary Bruce McLaren himself, as well as Denny Hulme...by the time McLaren produced the iconic M8D, the British team were Can-Am’s dominant force. Their dominance was such that at one point Can-Am was referred to as the Bruce-and-Denny Show. Sadly, this was also the car that Bruce McLaren died driving while testing at the Goodwood Circuit on 2 June 1970. Following the tragedy, Team McLaren took 9 wins out of 10 rounds to propel Denny Hulme to his second championship title. For these reasons & others, the McLaren M8D will forever be etched in racing history. The M8D was developed for the 1970 Can-Am season. The high strut-mounted rear wing of the M8B had been banned by Can-Am, so the M8D's rear wing was mounted low on fins, earning the car the nickname "Batmobile". The enlarged 7,620 cc (465 cu in) Chevrolet V8 engine now developed 670bhp at 6800rpm with 600 lb⋅ft (810 N⋅m) of torque. *Display Quality !! This slot car's body is close to perfect w/ wing, roll bar & engine in excellent condition. HP2 CurveHugger Chassis w/ chrome rims is track tested in good working condition but may need a tune or part replacement for optimal performance. This is a vintage slot car that is over 40 years old.
