Description: This is a version of the Ten Commandments by artist Chaim Gross which dates from 1975. In 1970, the Joseph Meyerhoff Foundation commissioned Chaim Gross to produce two panels representing the ten commandments to decorate the ark of the synagogue at JFK Airport in New York City. The synagogue has since been replaced with a small chapel and the panels are currently up on the walls of the chapel. In 1975, the Judaic Heritage Society produced a replica of the panels as a set of ten irregular shaped ingots of pure silver plated with platinum and gold. Each panel has one of the first ten letters of the Aleph-Bet with a semi-abstract representation of each of the commandments. The ingots are held by spring-catches attached to the wooden frame which is shaped like the two tablets. Each ingot weighs about 1.1 Troy ounces. The wood frame measures 12" tall x 7.5" wide" x 3" deep. Attached to the frame is a small bronze plaque with the artist's signature and the serial number, 00280. The entire piece weighs 2 pounds and 8 ounces. There is no documentation (i.e., booklet and certificate) that comes with this piece. Carefully wrapped, insured and shipped with Federal Express.
