Description: This is an original souvenir bronze paperweight-style ashtray, commemorating the Boulder Dam, commonly called the Hoover Dam. It is in great shape and retains the original felt bottom. See photos for condition. Built during the Great Depression as part of the Boulder Canyon Project, the dam is on the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. Officially named the Hoover Dam for Herbert Hoover, who was President during construction, the dam was called the Boulder Dam during the Roosevelt administration, until an act of Congress in 1947 restored the original name. Apparently, Roosevelt's Secretary of the Interior, Harold Ickes, didn't like Hoover, lol. A nice piece of our Nation's history.
