Description: Vintage 1950s Teddy Kuddles (TM) by the Knickerbocker Toy Company in New York, U.S.A. Well-loved beige / tan / blonde mohair teddy bear with more than a few threadbare areas and a bit of matting to his fur in some spots. He has bright orange Starburst eyes made of plastic and is wearing a red bandanna with white polka dots around his neck. His outfit is blue corduroy overalls. His body is kind of semi-flattened. You can tell this little guy was very much loved. Tush tag intact. 11" x 7.5" Knickerbocker Toy Company was founded in 1850 in Albany, NY and started out manufacturing educational toys like alphabet blocks. The unusual name 'Knickerbocker' was derived from the nickname for the citizens of New York in reference to the baggy trousers the original Dutch settlers wore. The 1st bears ascribed to Knickerbocker were from around 1925 when the company started using permanent labels. They produced high-quality toy animals and called them 'Animals of Distinction'.
