Vintage Swirl Ponytail Barbie (1964/65), Japan, w/original suit, shoes & robe

Description: Original owner of this 1964-1965 Swirl Ponytail Barbie (# 850). Her face complexion, lip and eye makeup, as well as her red hand and toenails are all original, with no repainting. She is wearing her original red jersey swimsuit, in very good condition, with only a very small pull on one side, and red open toe heels with a Japan mark on the sole of the left shoe. She is a No. 7 Swirl Ponytail Barbie. No 7 came out in 1964, with the word "patented" added to the marking (unlike No 6); it was produced until 1965. Her body marking on her right buttock reads as “Midge T.M./(c) 1962/Barbie(R)/(c)1958/by/Mattel, Inc./Patented.” Japan is also imprinted on the sole of her right foot. 544 N N, imprinted inside the top of her left arm, was solely used as a manufacture assembly reference. The body has no splits or scratches. However, her face and arms have darkened a little, which is typical of Barbie dolls made in 1965.The earrings she used to wear have caused a slight start of discoloration on the right side. There are also two small, light green spots towards the top of her right arm. Her lemon/light blonde hair is a little frizzy, and her original ponytail is tied loosely in the back. Included with Barbie’s swimsuit are a terrycloth beach bathrobe and matching bag from the same period, although this outfit was probably made in France by a Barbie clothing competitor.
