The under layer is a soft flannel with a delicate floral print in pale pinks and greens. The borders, design and gridlike quilting are all done by hand. It is likely that the outline of the sunbonnet sue figures are machine stitched after being secured by hand. The quilt came from an estate and dates from the 60's-90's.
