Description: Spoth's Cake Making & Decoration by Max Spoth, edited by W H Evans, Virtue and Company, London (1950) Maroon hardcover (8x9.5”), 380 pgs, b&w ils/plates First illustration in the book is a fancy birthday cake in color. All other illustrations are b&w, and there are lots of them. Cakes of all sorts are presented. Max Spoth, a NYC-based cake maker, was a prizewinner in the American Section at the Bakers’ International Exhibition in London in 1937. The Preface (pic 4) tells of the connection between that prize and the publication of this book. Binding is very good but there is some slight endpaper hinge splitting at spine both front and back. Covers show some surface scuffing and edge wear, and the endpapers on the sides adjacent to the covers have darkened considerably, which I can't explain. Pages have yellowed from age but no tears or or other damage. The pictures provide more information about this book and the condition of this copy. ► We are thinning contents of our smoke-free, pet-free home. Books will be listed, plus toys including CCG and trading cards, fabric/wallpaper sample books, jigsaw puzzles, jewelry, household items and maybe some of my fishing and workshop stuff.
