Vintage Round Brass Ashtray Etched Floral Etched Screw Off Lid India 327th WW2 ?

Description: Vintage brass ashtray with screw off lid. Etched with a floral design and decorated with muted greens and red and accented with black. There is significant color loss on this piece due its age. The lid unscrews to allow for the ashes to be dumped. Measures 3.25” diameter and 1.75” tall. What I find more fascinating about the ashtray is the possible history it has. Based on the 1944 date this piece was around when India was part of the the British Empire Rule. India did not gain independence until 1947. And at first I thought this piece was a dated March 27th 1944, but that obviously doesn’t match up with Christmas. Then I realized it could be the 327th Regiment. I did some research and sure enough there was such a US regiment that was in Europe, specifically Bastogne Belgium, on Christmas Day! Around the time of the Battle of the Bulge. This makes total sense because the 327th was stationed in England during WW2 . One of the many British soldiers fighting with the 327th could’ve gifted this to one of the American soldiers in the 327th. Who in turn could have engraved it with the date to remember, or the giver etched it. It is quite possible that this piece has seen action. Obviously I have no provenance, and I am purely speculating. But the thought of it is very exciting! I realize that this has nothing to do with the piece itself as far as how it’s made etc. But it is possible that this piece has some history. And I think that’s pretty cool!
