Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rare microphone that doesn't come around on Ebay or Reverb too often. This is a Turner Dynamic model 57 microphone manufactured in the 1950's for about 10 years or less and was sold for broadcasting and T.V purposes. The mic was a higher end piece at that time with a radical newer look for the company. The design was slim and modern and extended far out towards the singer or broadcaster allowing more space between the stand and the user. Great for high fidelity recording purposes and non-directional in nature. Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Turner catalog I have along with it's basic characteristics and price. This Turner 57 is dual impedance but currently set at Low Z. You can changed the impedance depending on how you wire your mic cable and the instructions to do so are right on the Turner badge as seen in pic # 6. This mic has been tested and still has the original element with strong output. Not as strong as your modern mic but some good gain will fix that problem. Though this mic is wired at Low Z it actually has more of a mid range tone to it. Not bass heavy at all like a Shure SM58. The Turner 57 is very light weight and appx 9 3/4 inches long X 1 inch wide. It has that mid century design too where the lower joint mechanism acts as a modern mic clip though it's built into the mic. That design was pretty much phased out by the end of the 1970's as was the unique 4 pin design that turner utilized for the mic cable. More on that later. As you can see the overall cosmetic finish of this Turner 57 looks pretty good. Typical small scratches and small paint chips in the stock black paint with scuff marks but there are zero dents or fractures. The screen has no deformation or tarnish. The 57's lower satin chrome pistol grip is very good as is the Turner badge (completely legible) and there is plenty of tension on that joint mechanism which is adjustable via side screw. In my own opinion I would give her a solid 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 though some would rate higher. The mic comes with a short cable that operates the mic. It's just 10 inches long but in great physical and operation condition. Soft and pliable and again, the 4 pin connection is wired for Low Z setting. The cable has the vintage Cannon male XLR end connector. Simply attach any longer XLR cable and your good to go though you'll get a much stronger signal with a male 1/4 inch type cable. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand. If you need one to compliment the mic please just ask and I'll show you what I have available.
