Description: Obtained from the original owner, this beautiful flamed example is a great addition to anyones collection. This is the higher end model that was found in the Tonk Bros factory catalog. Includes original Geib Hard Case and unnamed brass/ aluminum bow. Will need new strings before optimum usage. Has a top crack as shown in the photos that was professionally repaired by an experienced chicagoland luthier. This marvelous-sounding instrument was made in pre-war (1920s) Germany by a maker working under the Antonio Loveri trade name. It was then imported into the United States by the Tonk Brothers firm, a 20th century American distributor based in Chicago. Although made in Markneukirchen, Germany, Loveri violins are well-deserving of their Italian moniker, having a reputation for producing remarkably dulcet tones given their modest German pedigree. This particular instrument is beautifully varnished, boasting a flamed one-piece back and original ebony fittings throughout. The instrument shows signs of having suffered only two minor cracks in its 90-year lifetime (one on top, the other on back), both of which have been repaired. The Loveri is a remarkably well-made fiddle that should satisfy the needs of the discriminating professional as well as the dedicated student!
