This Polaroid has been one of my favorites for years - it was part of a pair of the same girl - it’s a strong image - after decontextualizing of course - what is seen is what most people see - what I see is awe-inspiring - majestic really. The mystery is all around this girl - the shadows almost appears intentionally - with the heavenly light on her face slowly shifting to reveal her in all her capacity - as I wrote about her in the other photo - her pose was not calculated to inspire people 50 years after it was taken - there’s something glorious and honorable about the girl in this image - not forced to pose, because (for descriptive purposes) we see a girl with a weight issue wearing an oversized ballerina dress - honorable in her desire to walk through her front yard to the more public sidewalk and glorious in her joy of being photographed in her beautiful ballerina dress with her hair fixed just right. She wanted to be photographed in all her brilliance - ignorant to the fact, not of her physical appearance, but of her innate strength and blind determination.
