ITEM DESCRIPTION: Up for auction is a very RARE, vintage, silver soldered, 32 oz., Olean House (hotel in Olean, New York) silverplated coffee pot. The Olean House, also known as the old Martin Hotel, was famous as a stopping place for business travelers getting off the Erie Lackawanna or Pennsylvania Railroads. It may have also served as a station for the Underground Railroad. Fully stamped underneath "R. Wallace 0376 44 32 OZ OLEAN HOUSE". Measures 8" tall, and 6 1/4" across from the spout tip to the opposite rim. Does show wear with scratches, indentation to the very bottom of the base, and one oval area of silverplate loss. Also, the lid is a bit crimped in 2 places, and doesn't sit perfectly flat. See the last 2 photos for close-ups of this damage.
