Description: Beautifully detailed Black Pottery ceramic sculpture of a sitting indigenous woman with a braid holding a pot. The pot has three small holes in it, presumably for copal incense sticks or flowers. Folk art originating from Oxaca, Mexico. Approx. 6.5" tall. Very similar to works by Rosa Real Mateo de Nieto, (Doña Rosa) who is widely credited with originating the barro negro style of pottery, however, it is unsigned. Either an early work by Dona Rosa, or an homage by a highly skilled artist. In excellent condition with light, normal wear, but no cracks, chips, or major damage. Thanks.
