Description: Northwest Airlines NORTHWEST - Wings to your Vacation Sign Good condition $55 All Images are reproductions of 1930’s thru 1980’s larger original signs. Most of these have holes and can be hung by finishing nail protruding from the wall OR screws. Porcelain on Steel was popular in the early 1900 as a way to protect steel from rust. All of these were originally converted to miniatures for the ANDY ROONEY sign company by art director CARL SUNDBERG of ECA who photographically translated originals into fired porcelain colors. Decorative Porcelain Enamel on Steel images are made using screen printing colors made of finely ground glass and oxide particles that are fused by higher temperature firing at 800°C. This is NOT PAINT! Multiple color images are made using separately printed and fired formulated colors. These are unique and no longer and never again made as these techniques are too expensive to compete with printed TIN signs that are the current technology available by mass production. Further these Refrigerator Magnets are the very end of that era from CARL SUNDBERG’s personal collection accumulating over ~20 years of prototyping and production prior to 1995. This is PORCELAIN on STEEL - NOT TIN! Tin signs are made in CHINA so watch out for the knock offs they have no intrinsic value!. Please know you are buying the item AS-IS and there may be but not always minor defects. Made between 1970 and 1996 by the ERIE CERAMIC ARTS Company, Erie PA USA 16506. These were made for the ANDY ROONEY Sign Company and no longer available thru them. Porcelain on steel with printed images is no longer manufactured hence only historical samples are available.
