Description: Navajo artist Eugene J Charley, well known for his spectacular silver work, has brought that meticulous craftsmanship to this powerful and spirited work. A seamless blend of canine and human, the sharp-eyed, sharp-fanged ceramic figure is masked and draped in a floor-length cutaway cape of regal white fur. His humanity, revealed at the figure’s front, is clad in the decorated breastplate and loincloth and tall, fringed moccasins of the Navajo people. The piece is expressive and clearly, imbued with significance. The only condition issue I see is that the front foot, which attaches to the wooden stand with a nail, appears to have once been reinforced with glue, which is no longer in place. This allows you to rotate the figure, if desired. It does not affect the balance or integrity of the figure. The piece has been signed twice. The first mark says “ Wolfman” By: EJC. The second, in ink, says Eugene J Charley, Continental Divide, NM. Expressive, symbolic artwork ships First Class Mail from Los Angeles. VINTAGE Navajo 10” WOLFMAN Kachina Signed Eugene J. Charley.
