Description: This incredibly detailed Lakota Sioux doll was certainly a labour of love. The body, arms and legs are batting-stuffed tradecloth. The head is of molded clay and the costume is of brain tanned buckskin. The facial features are eerily true to life. The hair is human of a medium brown hanging in long braids at either side of the head held by hide thongs. The dress in the two hide style has a fully beaded yolk with a stepped design over a turquoise background. The entire dress seems to be constructed from the scraps of several individual tanned hides. A series of green, red and black faceted beads adorn the dress front about 1/3 of the way above the waist. She wears an equally impressive beaded belt upon which is fastened with a matching hide awl; the detail of which is quite remarkable. The Sioux doll is also outfitted with matching moccasins and leggings to complete the ensemble. Measures approx 14.5” in height Circa: 1880 Condition: excellent.
