Description: This vintage phonics game centers around consonant matching. It is in very good condition considering how long I have had it! I did have to repair one of the playing pieces, with markers and some "White Out", on one side, as some of the print came off, exposing the bare cardboard. I have enclosed a close-up picture of the repair job. I did highlight the directions, with a yellow marker and do some underlining in pencil, although it is not shown in the photos. This is a duplicate of a game I already put up, so I am using the same pictures, as everything is basically in the same shape with the exception of the directions being highlighted and the playing piece being repaired. If you would like a photo of the highlighted set of directions, I would be more than happy to add it to the listing. I used this game, in my kindergarten classroom, during the month of October. My students loved it! This item is clean and comes from a smoke free home. This game is for 2-4 players and for ages 5+ years. The following are the contents of the game.: 1 cardboard game board, 4 cardboard playing pieces with plastic stands, 21 word cards, 1 number die, and 1 set of instructions. The board, cards, and playing pieces are all plastic coated for durability. To set up the game, all the word cards are placed face down in the middle of the board. The object of the game is to be the first player to move your playing piece once around the board and return to your starting space. Players move ahead by playing "memory", trying to find the word cards that start with the same letter as the words on the board. The words on the board are color-coded to the backside of the word cards. For example, if a player lands on a space with a red word, he/she tries to make a match with a red word card. Players roll the die and move ahead the number of spaces shown. The player then chooses a word card and reads it aloud. The player shows the card to the other players and then returns it, face down, to its original position on the board. If the first letter on the word card matches with the word on the board where the player has landed, he/she continues rolling the die. If it does not match, the player waits until his/her next turn to choose another word card. To make the game more fun, sometimes the path will split. When this happens, players may choose either direction to follow. The directions also include an option for longer game play to accommodate older children. This is a very nice feature to have available. This item is rare and very hard to find! I have not seen any others currently selling online! This game would make a wonderful addition to a kindergarten classroom! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find this game a good home.
