Description: Vintage Morocco Hirz Turquoise Prayer Box Pendant Secret Compartment This is a very old Hirz box, possibly 1950s or earlier. It does appear to have age to it but it is also in good condition with very little wear apparent. It comes with what appears to be an original silver tone chain. It goes on over the head as it has no clasp. Overall, a very nice prayer box and possibly quite old.A prayer box pendant, known as a "Hirz" was part of a woman's wedding attire, and the intricate silver techniques were perfected by silver smiths before World War II. These pendants usually show a fair amount of wear, likely from being a much-loved piece of jewelry. As such, many of the designs at each end -- along with the silver itself -- have worn down over the decades. Handmade by local Artisans and typically decorated with colorful enamel or stones or glass cabochons as in this case..Sometimes referred to as amulet or talisman due to fact that it might have had a prayer put inside of it for protection.
