Description: This is an inspiring and powerful Vintage Modern Southwest American Indian Navajo Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a young Native American boy, likely Navajo, running across the red sands of his neighborhood, with a masked ancestor spirit running beside him, mirroring his movements. Another ancestor spirit stands stoically in the distance to the left. In the background, small traditional reservation dwellings can be seen, along with another young boy who watches from afar. Signed: "Fred" in the lower right corner. There are several Southwestern Native American artists with this name, and I cannot figure out which one created this piece. Perhaps you know more about the artist or their work? This painting likely dates to the 1970's - 1980's. Approximately 22 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 21 x 21 inches. Good condition for age and storage, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period wooden frame. There is some light speckles of residue to the upper edge of the canvas, and one small and barely noticeable tear to the lower right edge (please see photos.) Acquired from the deceased collection of a prominent Native American art collector in Orange County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
