Description: This terrific oil and encaustic on Masonite panel from the years just before WWII measures 32” x 25 ½” and is signed lower right C. Chartier. Alex Charles Chartier [Alex Charles] (1894-1957). Best Known for his urban scenes in and around Paris, Chartier painted in a variety of styles reflecting the trends of the 20th century. This cubist-inspired scene with crisp hard, geometric edges and bold vertical perspective is richly augmented by the oils having been laid to a preparation of lava-textured encaustic (or similar) It is in very good, stable condition with one minor edge loss and bears lengthy original inscriptions on the back, “Gare Maine Montparnasse Paris 1936 (?) along with inventory “No. 92”. It appears never to have been framed. WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SHIP WORLDWIDE IF ALLOWED BY USPS. Please contact for international shipping cost quote.
