I think these were popular in the 1950's and 1960's, and may have been made from a kit that you could buy and make at home. The backing is masonite, covered with some type of rough fabric that the design is applied to Almost looks like small pieces of broken colored glass. The masonite slides into the top and bottom frame, which has its original gold paint. Great condition, and the only issue I see is a intermittent line down the left side, almost like a string of the glue.
