Description: Vintage estate find by Marc Bellaire, a Mid Century Modern abstract ashtray with white and black and gray bands of decorations. The ashtray is signed in script "Bellaire Calif." (See back of ashtray). By Marc Bellaire, Incorporated and designed by Donald E. Fleishman operating in California as Marc Bellaire. Measures 11.75" x 14.5" w x 2" height. In good vintage condition with some scuffing, and no cracks, breaks, or repairs. Please review all of the photos as they are part of the description and condition. Donald E. Fleishman (1925-1994) Donald E. Fleishman was born in 1925 in Toledo, Ohio. He studied at Toledo Museum of Art while employed at Libbey Glass Company. Donald moved to California in the early 1950's, worked with Sascha Brastoff Ceramics, and opened a studio Culver City operating as Marc Bellaire, Incorporated. Bellaire produced high-quality ceramics, often decorated with ultramodern figures and geometric patterns. His most famous line was Mardi Gras, featuring slim dancers in spattered and striped colors. Other popular lines were Jamaica, Balinese, Beachcomber, Friendly Island, Hawaiian, Bird Isle and Kashmir. Marc Bellaire was quite prolific during the 1950's and was named one of the top ten artware designers by Giftware Magazine. Bellaire relocated to Marin County in the 1970's and later moved to Pal Springs where he opened his final studio and gallery. Donald E. Fleishman died in 1994.
