Description: Vintage Lovatt & Langley Pottery VASE Green Matte Finish Black Accent Patent No. 8687 100% Authentic Lovatt & Langley Smoke Free Environment Made in England Color: Dark Green & Black Measurements: Height: 5.5” Top Width: 4.5” Bottom Width: 3.5” This vintage Lovatt & Langley pottery vase, stands apart from all the others. A rarely seen combination of black accent over dark green, the painted design is of a simple flower pattern around the top border. The flowers are in between arches that extend down and seem to mimic a trellis. Barely seen because of age and use, the black rim around the bottom has almost entirely faded. This is consistent throughout the body of the vase, where you will see wear spots, fading, and signs of age, most notably on the green. The black accents have more of a shine, but the green finish is matte-like. As the company evolved and methods changed in the area of decorating, Lovatt & Langley were granted Patent No. 8687 to their pottery in 1908. During this period wares such as vases were hand-painted on a matte glaze background, and this method seems to describe this vase to a tee. Underneath you will find both the stamp of Lovatt & Langley Ware England, and the Patent No. 8687, along with England embossed. A handsome, unique, rare, and hard to find addition for the avid collector! Great vintage condition. As mentioned in my description, you will find wear from age, most notably on the green portion, but does not detract from beauty, uniqueness, and essence of the piece. There is also some light, but normal crazing. A small chip at the top, under the rim (photo 5) but no other known cracks or chips. Both the top rim and around the bottom border are smooth.
