Description: Early Lou Murter Braceback Windsor Armchair, 1:12 scale. Made in 1979. Signed (with his initials: ELM), numbered (6) and dated. Very detailed, dimensional carving. Meticulous work. WIndsor chairs were a specialty of Lou's and he did quite a few different styles. Note the variety of turned patterns on the spindles, crosspieces, and uprights. You can also see the delicate and unusual swirled ends at the top of the chair back. Also note the superb detail on the chair seat. I believe the wood is mahogany. In actuality, it's a little darker than the photos show: I've lightened it a bit to better show the carving detail. I used to see Lou at miniatures shows, carving these delicate and intricate chairs with a pen knife. Amazing to watch. He spent a lot of time in museums studying historical furniture. He was passionate about accuracy.
