It use a center-rail pick-up roller to power the car and it will operate almost any place on your layout, not just on RCS track. The action is controlled by an on-off switch on the car. It has Metal Wheels, Operating Couplers, Etc. Made in 1957 thru 1959 (and was remade in 1980 as # 9307.) It is in the O / O-27 gauge series of train cars and will work with all compatible trains made by MTH, Marx, Williams, American Flyer, Weaver, K-line, Atlas and similar size and scale trains.
