Early years only wood carvings were offered to the public but as success and demand increased, each piece they created was hand cast in resin to precisely reproduce the beauty of the original wood carving done by Leo Smith. After the casting, each was hand painted on color schemes developed by Marilyn Smith. In 1991, the Smith's began having reproductions made of their work by Midwest of Cannon Falls and Department 56. Leo continues to create beautiful Folk Art and is known internationally for his colorful Folk piecesThe Leo Smith Nativity Set as originally produced comes in five boxes as shown in our photos and those boxes contain 11 individual figures (plus a separate king's gift which sits in front of the bowing king). Box contents are as follows: Mary holding Jesus & Joseph, 3 Kings, shepard & two sheep, nativity angel and nativity animals - ox and donkey.
